i hate the internet.
well, i really just hate spyware and pop-up ads. i hate them with a passion. i hate them with every melodramatic fiber of my being. i want to choke the person(s) who invented spyware and pop-ups, step on their neck, and spit on their face. yes. that is what i want to do.
so i woke up early this morning because i had a doctor's appointment. when i went to the computer to turn it on, i noticed that it was already turned on and there were a bunch of error messages and pop-up ads all over the place. now i KNOW i turned the computer off last night. so i'm thinking either my computer is magical (perhaps demonic?) and turned itself on or my mother snuck into my room early this morning before work to use my computer and just forgot to turn it off. or is it possible that a virus in my computer could turn it on while it's off? i have no idea.
anyway, i spent a good chunk of time this morning downloading a spyware program and removing a bajillion pieces of spyware from my computer. this made me late for my appointment despite the fact that i woke up two hours before it. stupid. the appointment went okay though. when i got home, i spent some more time trying to remove spyware. then i installed norton anti-virus which just took FOREVER. my comp was getting worse and worse until i finally just uninstalled kazaa and hotbar. i think those were the roots of all my problems. i can live without hotbar, but kazaa...i don't know. it's just very cruel and ironic - now that i have dsl, i can't download any mp3s. :( sigh.
but i guess it's the sacrifice i have to make for a computer that actually WORKS. and i thought reformatting the hard drive would solve all the problems and that would be the end of that. guess not.
JUST STOP WITH THE SPYWARE YOU STUPID STUPID PEOPLE. AAAAAAAAARGH!!
sigh. okay. anyway, the only good piece of news today is that i finally FINALLY got my diploma from ucsd. geez, took long enough. ucsd is so damn slow. i put it in the diploma holder thing and it's very pretty. and they got my name right! amazing!!
okay, i guess it's back to cleaning my bathroom now. ugh. it's so hot.

Spammers and Spy-warers - stepping on their necks and spitting on their faces is all well and good.
However, I'm certain that giving them paper-cuts and subsequently pouring vinegar on them will add satisfaction ad infinitum!

KazaaLite is Kazaa with the spyware (illegally) removed.
I'd suggest running Ad-aware every couple of weeks (www.lavasoftusa.com) but it sounds like you have something that does what it does.

Pow! kills pop-ups but you have to let them show up the first time, tell Pow! to remember them, and then it'll kill them in the future. Put a shortcut in the Start Menu -> Programs -> Startup menu for it to always be on. If you mess up and it starts killing a page you want to see, you can pause it and un-blacklist it.
And running an anti-virus permanently will protect you, but it'll corrupt Windows faster (less time between having to format and reinstall Windows). They're very invasive.
Good luck.
