oh yeah, forgot to mention something else that happened in linguistics today that was kinda funny. someone in class asked if sign language has its own slang and who "invented" the signs for the slang, etc. so the prof answered us by using an example in spoken language. he asked the class for a slang word that came up fairly recently, like within the past 5 years. everyone in the room started talking at once until several people yelled out "hella!!" and the prof answered "and where did 'hella' come from?" again, everyone in the room started talking all at once till someone yelled out, "BAY AREA!!!!" ;)
