i don't like this title thing.
because i so rarely have a good title. but i'll just keep it, i guess. i don't know why.
anyway, i know i haven't blogged in a while, but really, nothing exciting has been going on in my life. it's just been the same old, same old. still tutoring, still shopping too much, still being a lazy bum. well, actually, i am starting to look for another job and i have one interesting prospect so far, but i'm superstitious and don't want to talk about it for fear that i'll jinx it. so...moving on.
the real reason i'm blogging is because i've recently read that alan keyes, the ultra-conservative republican who ran for u.s. senator in illinois, has pretty much disowned his daughter for being a lesbian. more specifically, he's fired her (i'm not sure how she worked with him. i just know that she did campaign with him, even though he campaigned against gay rights), kicked her out of her apartment, cut her off financially (meaning she can't even finish her time at brown university), and has cut off virtually all communication with her. oh, the hypocrisy! family values, my ass.
what gets me the most is that alan keyes is black. he has most likely been discriminated against (or has had family that's been discriminated against) for the color of his skin - something he was born with and can't change. so how can he discriminate against his OWN DAUGHTER for the way she was born and for something she can't change?! i just don't get it.
at first, i was pretty pissed off, but i think, more than anything, this just makes me sad. that a parent could so cruelly and heartlessly kick his child out onto the street when she's done nothing but love him, chose family loyalty over her own principles, and has asked for nothing in return (not even money) but his love. it's not as if she's asking for them to put up a rainbow flag and join an lgbt org. all she wants is for them to love and support her (emotionally, not financially). but since her lifestyle goes against his party line, he's more than willing to cut her out of his family, with surgical precision, as if she were some sort of cancer. what happened to christian tolerance, acceptance, and love? the irony is that keyes and his wife still go to church every weekend but ignore the most important teachings of jesus - love and compassion, tolerance and acceptance. they can't even offer that to their very own daughter. they should be ashamed.
and to think that alan keyes wanted to be a u.s. senator and even wants to be governor someday. if he's this cruel to his own daughter, imagine how vicious he could be to his constituents.
okay, no more soapbox rant for today. onto something more pleasant like friends and knitting. ooh, and new lost and alias tonight!! maybe next time i blog i'll have something more interesting to say about my own life rather than get worked up over someone else's. mm... doubt it though.
